Inverse Estimation of Heat Transfer Coefficients in Continuous Casting Secondary Cooling

Descrizione: The main goal of the inverse heat conduction problem is to determine the external heat transfer conditions from temperature measurements collected at one or more internal locations. This contrasts with the classical forward heat conduction problem, where the temperature field is calculated for prescribed boundary conditions. This thesis focuses on the estimation of heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) in the secondary cooling zone of continuous casting using inverse modeling techniques. Particular attention will be devoted to parameter identification, solution stability, and sensitivity to measurement uncertainties. Accurate HTC estimation is essential for predicting temperature evolution and solidification behavior, as secondary cooling conditions strongly influence slab quality, especially with respect to the formation of internal and surface cracks.
