Sensitivity and uncertainty analysis of solidification models under time-dependent cooling-rate profiles

Descrizione: The Inter-Dendritic Solidification (IDS) is a thermodynamic-kinetic software package currently used by Danieli. By IDS tool, we can achieve information such as: phase changes, compound formation/dissolution (inclusions and precipitates) and solute distribution during the solidification of steels and their cooling/heating process after solidification. This thesis aims to investigate the influence of time-dependent cooling rate profiles on the prediction of solidification phenomena. The work will focus on the development of methodologies allowing the IDS model to accept temperature-time histories as input and on the quantitative assessment of how different cooling conditions affect model outputs. Particular attention will be given to sensitivity analysis and uncertainty propagation techniques, with the objective of identifying the variables and process conditions that most strongly influence the predicted material properties. The expected outcome is a deeper understanding of the relationship between industrial operating practices and microstructural evolution, enabling a more accurate characterization of steel grades and improving the predictive capabilities of solidification models through mathematically rigorous analysis.
