Artificial Intelligence Methods for Disability Identification in Electronic Health Records

High-quality care for individuals with disability and frailty relies on clear, standardized communication among healthcare providers. Medical classifications like the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) help structure and unify descriptions of health conditions across various settings. However, challenges such as limited training, awareness, and subjective use of these classifications can lead to inconsistent application and hinder effective use in Electronic Health Records.

My research aims to develop AI tools that assist healthcare professionals in identifying and coding disability indicators accurately in clinical documents. By applying Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence, this project will improve the consistency and interoperability of clinical data, making disability assessments clearer and more uniform across healthcare practices.
