Research Project
Immersive analytics of lifelogging auditory data for digital humanities
The PhD Proposal is a project about wearable and pervasive computing technologies with an emphasis on immersive audio. In particular lifelog techniques, earable devices, and machine learning algorithms will be used to extract and analyze temporal and spatial features that will be represented in virtual and augmented realities, in which audio spatialization and sonic interaction play a key role in maintaining the immersive illusion.
The study will be composed of 3 different phases.
1st Phase involves recognition and design of features to be extracted from data. Earable devices will be used to design a wearable data collection system by using available sensors.
In 2nd phase, feature evaluation and data visualisation will be taken into account. Various aspects of immersive VR/MR experiences will be investigated and evaluated in order to find the most suitable sonic interaction for data navigation in terms of User Experience and User Interfaces, tasks and scenarios, use of immersive technologies, etc.
Last phase of the project will be the application of the LL framework to different scenarios of digital humanities. The main scenario will be a user centered storytelling experience for cultural heritage and tourism. Such a scenario aims to create, with the help of immersive analytics, a user-taylored engaging environment for museums and cultural sites exploration both virtually and physically.
