Institutional Review Board (IRB-DMIF)
The Institutional Review Board of DMIF (IRB-DMIF) is a committee independent from the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics (DMIF).
The IRB-DMIF is entitled to express opinions concerning the compliance with ethical principles of research and studies involving humans conducted by members of the DMIF and falling outside the competence of the Unique Regional Ethics Committee (CEUR) of the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Duties
The IRB-DMIF formulates, at the request of members of the DMIF, opinions of conformity to ethical principles regarding studies and research – carried out by members of the DMIF – that involve evaluations with users, in presence or remotely, concerning software and/or hardware systems, analysis of data collected through software and elaboration of socio-cultural profiles. The legal, ethical and moral responsibility of those who propose and conduct studies and research withstand.
Opinions
Requests for opinions have to be submitted by the applicant through the form available at the URL https://forms.office.com/r/P1JXLFsCAq. For assistance and further information, please write to irb.dmif@uniud.it.
Documentation has to include the following information:
- Title of the study
- Principal Investigator (PI)
- Members of the research group
- Funding sources
- Duration of the research
- Purpose of the trial
- Participants to be involved in the study
- Method of recruiting participants
- Tasks assigned to participants and tools used to perform the tasks
- Measurements taken on participants and instruments used for measurement
- Detailed experimental procedure
- Critical issues (ethical, security, data protection, other risks) and actions taken to mitigate them, namely regarding the protection of confidentiality, integrity and availability of data (backup, storage, access credentials)
- Disclosure notice provided to participants for the purpose of informed consent
- Data protection documentation that can be filled by accessing https://gdpr.unityfvg.it/ (choose “Accesso Federato” and use “@uniud.it” email credentials):
- research project form (scheda “progetto ricerca”)
- disclosure notice (if necessary)
- joint controller agreements or appointment of external data processor (if necessary)
Requests have to be submitted within 15 business days prior to each scheduled session. Requests received after this deadline will be reviewed by IRB-DMIF within 60 days of receipt of the request, convening, if necessary, an extraordinary session.
