Noether Analysis of Asymptotically Flat Spacetime
In theoretical physics, symmetry plays a central role in organizing the allowed states of a theory. This is achieved through Noether’s theorems, which associate each symmetry with a conserved charge, provided there are no fluxes at the boundary. The values of these charges label the states of the system, both in classical and quantum theory.
In recent years, the Celestial Holography program has been proposed as a way to investigate quantum gravity by studying fields at future null infinity. These fields are combinations of the gravitational degrees of freedom that transform covariantly under the symmetry group of future null infinity—namely, the Weyl-BMS group—and fully encode the dynamics at the boundary of spacetime.
The goal of this project is to derive some of these fields as Noether charges using the Covariant Phase Space formalism, which provides a rigorous mathematical framework for performing Noether analysis in gravitational theories.
