Data-Driven Approaches for Structured Populations
Neural networks (NNs) and Data-Driven methodologies have been successfully applied in various domains such as speech recognition, control systems and finance to cite just a few. However, their application in structured population modeling has been relatively unexplored. These models describe the dynamics of populations in terms of their age, size, gender or other characteristics, giving in general a more realistic description of the phenomena of interest. The aim of my research is to investigate the use of such techniques in combination with other numerical techniques (such as pseudospectral collocation) for studying structured populations from the dynamical standpoint in view of providing powerful tools for understanding and managing complex population models.
